Parents near Esplanade surprised by new drop-in centre | Toronto Star

I work at this centre. I'd like the preface this by saying, I'm fine with our centre being used this way as long as it's managed/staffed properly. However, the lack of notice is a real problem. Not for the school but for us. We only found out about this a few days ago as well. Now, the higher ups are scrambling to find staff to work these overnight shifts so the building is attended during this.

Also, to address those saying this will cause there to be more homeless in the area. Those people must not be paying attention to the area, we already have a lot of homeless come in and use the centre regularly. It has only been a problem a few times in my years of being here (and by a problem, I mean, people coming in and passing out on our benches or in our changing rooms, or a couple times breaking some toilets through let's say 'overuse').

Furthermore, if the people from the school are worried about homeless in the centre, they are welcome to stop using the centre to enter/exit the school. It has a completely separate entrance and is mainly connected through fire exits which many parents use despite us telling them not to (and we've had to disable some alarms because of this).
