It just isn't possible to build a console beating PC for less than the price of a console.

The point we should focus on is that most people who game on a console also own a shitty PC or laptop that they wasted $/€/£400 on. So take that wasted money, and the cost of a console, and voila you have a pretty solid gaming rig.
