People who ended up working in a profession completely different to what you studied; what is it and how did you get there?

Degree: Animal Science
Job: Analyst at a mortgage company

Graduated with years of relative work experience, internships, experience people who have been in the industry their entire lives don't have, degree from a polytechnic university, well respected for the industry. Pretty much the best position I could be right out of college.

The best job offer I got after 1.5 years of searching was $13/hr doing a job I hate, 4 month max contract position, no benefits, no chance for a real job with the company, and I'd have to move to a different city.

Went to a career fair, branched out of my field*, handed out 20 resumes, had 6 interviews scheduled within 2 days, job offer within 3 for a 6-figure sales position. Eventually moved from sales to the new position within the company which fits me a lot better.

*Career fair advertised as STEM career field. Of the 100 companies advertised, only 5-6 of them were there, and the rest were other random companies, and didn't really care about STEM at all. It was either leave or apply for things outside my comfort zone.
