Not actually a secret anymore because it got put out into the world. But my mother was molested by her father her entire childhood. And everyone just carried on like it didn’t happen. Her two brothers started families and would go and visit the dude. Shit, she even brought me around him until I was like 8. It wasn’t until my younger sister was born that she stopped speaking to him.

The “put out there” part is that my younger sister wrote an article about it for her college and posted it on her social media. And it caused a big family rift that lasted for two days through text messages and Emails only. You hear stories about people not feeling comfortable coming forward with their experiences with abuse. But to see my own family actually be upset that a child molester got exposed was eye opening. The man was dead and never had to deal with any consequence other than his riddled soul. And his sons were still trying to protect his name or the family’s name or whatever.
