People who grew up here, how do you afford to live here in 2021?

I’m 25 this year and am buying a house in East Denver (like, very very VERY far east) for 450k. Combination of high paying STEM job that let me pay off debts faster, one roommate (though I could still technically afford everything without them), and low monthly expenses. I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford something in a dreamy neighborhood, or anywhere even remotely near the city center, but that’s the sacrifice you have to be willing to make to be able to own anything out here.

I’ve lived here my whole life, but honestly can’t see myself staying here much longer. Hoping that I got into the market at a good time to make some decent equity and head out of state in about 5 years.
