Planet Fitness cancels woman's membership after her complaints of transgender woman in locker room

I'm sorry but whether the trans woman decides to dress up like a woman or not does not give ...her... the right to go into a female dressing room and parade their male genetalia around.

The room had private stalls. And more to the point, is that really what you think we do in the bathroom? Just run around waving dicks in peoples' faces? That'd be sexual harassment, and it's already illegal, same as if a guy were to do it to other guys.

This same argument, almost verbatim, was used to support racial segregation, and then to attack gay folk ("but what if a gay man tries to convert your son in the locker room? We can't let them around!"). It was wrong then, and it's wrong now.

There are places that should be a safe zone from the opposite sex...bathrooms and changing rooms are one of those areas.

So you would prefer, then, a trans man be in there? Facial hair, chest hair, booming voice, no boobs, testosterone in his veins? Because that's door #2.

I'm all for gays being married, having tax exemptions, etc.

Cool, but that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Changing the framework of society because a dude believes he is a woman inside? No.

Aaaaaand here we come to the heart of it. It never takes that long to get to the "but she's really a man" undercurrent of this sort of panic.

Fact is, trans women are women inside, and trans men are men inside, in a very literal physical sense. And if you don't want to take our word on it, take the *Journal of Psychiatric Research's instead. Post-hormone treatments, it goes far further than just a portion of the brain - blood levels, disease risks, body shape, emotions, metabolism all change.

Go to the mens changing room if you have a penis and a womens changing room if you have a vagina. It is that simple.

Flippant answer: what if you have neither? Is a soldier who lost his penis to shrapnel not allowed in the mens' anymore?

Less flippant answer: It really isn't. And dozens of areas explicitly protect trans folks' rights on this issue, with - Lo and Behold! - no significant increase in assaults or predation. It turns out that people intent on committing felonies don't go "oh, can't now, there's a sign on the door".

What if there was a woman in the changing room who has been raped and is completely terrified of male genetalia and is confronted with this kind of shit in an area they believe to be completely off limits to men and male genetalia?

Three responses to this. One, this isn't the case - this woman just flat didn't like it.

Let's change the circumstance: suppose someone has a debilitating phobia of dogs. They live in an area where pets are not allowed, but someone moves in one day and has an exemption for a seeing-eye dog. Do they get to say "nope, better get good at echolocation"?

But again, perhaps more to the point - you'd prefer trans men be there? I feel like someone who looks, sounds, and smells like a man is much more likely to trigger this inflammatory example than a trans woman whose penis is not on display (because, as previously noted, this room had private stalls).

Should the fucking transgender's rights be put over the rights of someone who is non-trans?

Should our rights to be recognized as the gender we are override other people wanting us not to be? Yes, it should, the same way that a black guy's right to use the bathroom overrides a racist's desire not to have them there.
