In Poland we answer "no thanks" when someone wishes us "good luck" because thanking is supposed to give you bad luck instead. What are some popular superstitions in your country/area?

Ukrainian over here, we have so many it's mental. Here's the lovely list , enjoy:

Don't walk with one shoe on or your mum will die

Don't cut your own hair because you're "cutting years off your life"

Don't whistle inside the house or you'll lose a lot of money

Take the garbage out before sunset or its bad luck otherwise

No washing up on holidays like easter because it angers God

No cutting (with scissors) on holidays like easter and on Sundays because it angers God

All religious Ukrainians must wear a cross so God can protect you (everyone had to wear one to attend nursery)

Apparently there's a practice of leaving a "cursed item" ,which can be something simple like an old penny or a ring, in someone's garden and this can bring them bad luck and illness.

If you see someone in your dreams who's a passed relatives and they tell you to do something then you have to do it (one of the more obscure ones)

Another common practice is blessing little children every night before bed.

There's more to do with dreams and bad omens and bullshit like that but that's just a couple I can think of off the top of my head. Ukraine is full of superstition.
