Has porn always been this violent?

Personally, as a SW'er AND survivor of the darker side of SA (incest/trafficking), I believe that society is actually regressing when it comes to objectively looking at how the growing trend of hyper-consumption of taboo sexual media directly correlates to increased violence against women.

Has porn always been this violent? To some extent, yes pretty much, but have people always had such readily available/instant access to macabre/taboo pornography? Absolutely not.

Think about the ways that porn consumption has evolved over the past 20-30 years. Back in the day, people would have to go to physical stores to buy magazines or video tapes/dvds in order to get off. There's always been an underground subculture of taboo pornography, but the barriers to obtaining the "extreme" porn were extremely difficult, if not impossible for many.

Then along came the internet which, even in its primitive years, created a newfound air of anonymity and secrecy. The internet enabled those who would seek out said media much easier access, simultaneously creating new pathways of discoverability for those who normally wouldn't seek out that type of media. In the early 2000s, however, there were still many hurdles/difficulties of slow processing speeds, pay-per-view paywalls, and computers being in visible family rooms, etc.

But then came the switch from paywalled sites to user-generated tube sites that became the norm. This combined with smartphones, faster processing times, and even social media, has virtually eliminated almost all of those aforementioned blocks to access of the taboo/incestuous/violent stuff, bringing it to the forefront of pornographic consumption. I fully believe this is impacting society on a deep subconscious level at a rate that nobody is ready to talk about.

What's happening seems to be the normalization of extreme/taboos that at best makes it become culturally popular (ie- step-mom/dad/sibling memes & jokes), but at worst leads to observable increases in violence, abuse, and overall misogyny.
