/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 48, Part 1 (Thread #186)

"Of course, communism — like it was under Stalin — is not going to come back. What will return, however, is national socialism. Not Hitler's, but Putin's." Otto von Habsburg, the son of the last Habsburg emperor, said this back in 2002.

At the time, Vladimir Putin had been president of Russia for just two years, establishing cordial relationships with several European leaders.

A few weeks ago, many West Europeans were totally surprised when Putin launched a full-scale war in Ukraine. But already 20 years ago, Otto von Habsburg warned that Putin was "a great danger".

some key points from video:

He first heard the name Putin from former inmates of one of the worst prisons who said that many Russians were nice, but that one guard was pure evil. he was called Putin.

He looked into Putins history and found out that during his School-days, Putin would rat out classmates to the police for not supporting the russian regime.

Putin joined the KGB at age of 23, which was much younger than usual.

Boris Jelzin was a drunk and one day, after partying, they just carried him out of the Kreml and Putin took over the throne.

In 2000, in a speech in Minsk, Putin announced his plans of doubling military spending over the next 5 years. How his intentions are to reunite the Soviet Union.

Putin got rid of the russian anthem and replaced it with a song in honor of Stalin. He also revived the red soviet flag.

In his birth-town, he created education for a "Putin youth" and transformed it towards a cult around his person, just like Hitler did before him. But just like with Hitler, the West just ignored Putin telling them exactly what his plans were.
