Red Dead Redemption pulled from BC, no longer playable

Thanks, I appreciate you explaining this. Of course I understand that the game won't check for an update, or download an update, if the console is offline. Because it's offline. But that also obviously prevents me from other online functionality of the XBox (HBO GO, VUDU, buying new games, playing other games online, etc.) This RDR premature BC glitch is a new situation that is obviously changing before our eyes as we type. I guess I was wondering if I could bring the Xbox One back online, but turn off automatic updates, and if that would work? Or is this RDR update not considered part of that? It's only invoked when you launch the game and/or try to play it online?

I don't feel I'm overthinking anything and I'm not "going out of my way." Worst case scenario, it's just two settings I'll leave in place for a few days. All of the games I've tested play fine, including RDR... without any mention of Hexic HD or a "failed update," and I don't understand why I should jeopardize that, just because you've got a hunch.

I'm unsure what you're suggesting I do instead. Leave the Xbox online all the time and then just take it offline, when I want to play RDR? That seems like a hassle to me. And yes, I'd be nervous that it would disable my installed copy of RDR. Or are you saying I should leave it offline entirely? In that case, the Xbox is a bit crippled anyway, so I fail to see why also leaving off automatic updates (even just for peace of mind) is such a big deal in the meantime.

I also don't understand this sentence, if you could clarify what you mean by this, I'd appreciate it.

And Microsoft has designed it to NOT update when online because that would allow you to play online.
