In high school, two of my friends and I decided to join a hiking group that would train to compete in this competition that was a 96km hike. We thought we should give it a go because we weren't in any other clubs or extra curricular activities at school and this one actually seemed pretty cool. The competition involved a group of 4 people as well as an instructor so the three teachers that were running the program could only take 12 students. It was tough because 23 people signed up and people would have to be cut from the program for the final hike. So did intense training for about four months, which involved early morning training for two hours three times a week and one to two weekend hikes which were all about 30km+ long. The teachers said they would pick the teams based on dedication and how committed people were to attend training and shit and my two friends and I had been to all sessions, we were the only ones to go to all of them because we wanted a guaranteed spot. Eventually more people joined the group about three weeks before the big event, and one of the teachers told us that there was no way they could be accepted in a team because they hadn't done enough training and it wouldn't be fair to the people who had been there since the beginning. By this point we were feeling really confident because we thought we would definitely had a guaranteed spot. Come the day where they announce the teams, they announce on a school parade that there is a list of people who got in on the front of the school notice board. My friends and I are all excited and go see it together. They have the names in two lists, the people in the teams and the 'rejects'. The only three names that were cut were ours. I started crying immediately because I couldn't believe it, we had dedicated months and months to this and people who decided to join weeks before were chosen. We knew the teachers hated us because we walked passed one of their staff rooms and they were bitching about us and to rub it in even more, one of the teachers was actually the deputy principal and she would call us to her office every lunch break to 'see how we were doing' and scrutinize us for not coming back to training when she was the one who chose to cut us. As a 16 year old in high school, I was so crushed because I had lost all interest in school and this was the only thing that made me and my friends excited. To top it all off, the teachers was a teacher of mine, so I had to see her everyday and she would talk to me about how hard it was and how sore her fucking legs were from the hike she just did and all I wanted to do was punch her fucking face.

TL;DR the only thing I loved in high school was taken away from me by snotty ass teachers that fucked me over
