Once left a party with 3 friends walking back to the dorm drunk and high and carrying a few road sodas. I stopped to drunkenly inspect a campus police phone and I hit the big blue button to dial them in the process. Everyone flips when the phone activated and we just slammed the cover and continued walking.
About 5 minutes later my friend goes to the edge of a nearby swamp to take a piss. Right on cue a squad car rolls up. I shove my open beer in my jacket pocket and we all try to act sober. I should mention it's wintertime so it's fucking freezing out.
cop: "did you use the campus police phone?"
"N-well.. I uh. I might have. By accident"
"Where are you guys coming from?"
"A party"
At this point my beer manages to turn upside down inside my jacket, I feel it dripping down my pants.
"Why did is your friend in the swamp?"
I turn around and see that my buddy that was taking a piss is no longer anywhere in sight. He must have jumped into the swamp when he saw the cop coming. I suppress the urge to giggle madly. My pant leg is soaked with beer now.
"I think he went to pee"
"You guys seem pretty drunk, you guys 21?"
I look at our friend who is 22 or 23, but the rest are 19. I don't want to rat him out.
"Some of us are."
In a cop voice he starts to ask for ID and a bunch of other followup questions. Things are not looking very good. I suddenly remembered one weird trick a friend used to neutralize a cop in a similar situation.
"We're just going home, dorms are right there. Just walking over there and going to bed" This was an appeal to his good nature and an appeal to his desire to not stand outside in the cold dealing with a bunch of drunk college kids.
He though for a moment, then "...get your friend out of the woods."
I had forgotten about my buddy taking a piss and saw he had completely disappeared into that thick swamp. We tried calling for him but he was either too long gone or not going fall for some perceived trick. The cop leaves and we all go home. Our friend shows up nearly an hour later covered in icy muddy water. Great times.
