Redditors that have committed/been accused of [Serious] crimes, how did you change yourself and where are you now?

My brother was charged with a crime that, if convicted, would have sent him to prison for twenty years. Thankfully he was found not guilty.

It just about ruined his life. All of his "friends" were sharing the news article of him being charged, with people saying how they "always knew he was a monster." He wasn't able to see his kids for a year, got kicked out of his apartment. Got shunned in the small community he lived in, and moved out to the middle of nowhere. Thankfully he didn't lose his job, and our family stood by him and gave him a lot of support.

It's been almost three years since he was charged, and two since the trail ended. He's got his family back, just got a great promotion, and got a nice place back in town.

Some amazingly incompetent police work almost sent him to prison for twenty year, took his family away, and destroyed his life. Thankfully he got a good lawyer, a lot of support and now his life is back on track. He is still pretty much the same person, but with a great distrust for the local authorities.
