Redditors who attended schools that were victim of a school shooting, how did the culture of the school change? How was the immediate and long term aftermath? Did things ever get back to normal after a few years?

I went to a school in Scotland that had 14 students killed by a gunman. I remember the day like it was yesterday. It's still seared in my memory and will forever be a part of me.

I was sitting at my lunch table when I heard the first shots. Everyone got silent and after a few seconds three more shots rang out and that's when it hit everyone what was happening. People started screaming and running everywhere. It was complete chaos. A teacher stood up and started yelling at everyone to stay calm and to follow him. Kids were panicking and running in every direction, and you could tell the teacher was panicking too. That's when I saw the gunman enter the cafeteria. He took aim at the teacher and fired a shot, missing him by only inches. The teacher fell down and got back up quicker than I've ever seen. At this point most kids had fled, but I was in some sort of shock. I hadn't moved a fucking muscle. There were ~30 kids still left in the cafeteria at this point. All hiding under tables and trying to be silent. The gunman was quiet, as if he was thinking and the only noise was the occasional whimper of someone who was hiding. I was in the very corner of the cafeteria sitting on the floor curled up small, but I was in the open and clearly visible to the shooter.

After what seemed like forever, but was probably only 20 seconds, he started walking again. Walking past the whimpering kids, sparing their lives for reasons I will never understand. He didn't even acknowledge their presence. He just silently walked towards the other end of the cafeteria. Towards me. His eyes were locked on mine. I pissed myself, I won't lie. I just sat their in shock watching death creep towards me. I watched him get closer and closer. 50 feet, 40 feet, 30. I heard sirens getting closer and closer outside, and kids screaming from other parts of the school. I held my breath those last few moments as he was walking up to me. He looked at me, and I recognized him. I had looked in his eyes before, talked to him. He stopped, aimed the pistol at me and muttered 5 words. He said "I need about tree-fiddy." Now it was around this time that I realized Amy was 8 stories tall and a crustacean from the paleozoic era. Goddamnit! That Loch Ness Monster had gotten me again! "I ain't givin' you no tree fiddy you god damn loch ness monstah!" I shouted at him. The last I saw of him he was swimming away into the distance.
