Redditors who went through school as "gifted" students, how did life turn out for you after highschool?

My parents put me in a gifted program in elementary school after I was evaluated. All the way through I had zero work ethic and was lazy. I never had to study to make A’s, so I was full of myself. When I was in school for my AA things were not any different than high school. I did not have to try. While I was in school for that degree, I worked in insurance which helped with my social awkwardness. When I went back to college and started nursing school, I hit a wall. I had to learn how to study as an adult in my mid twenties. It was rough. I struggled with applying myself and identifying strategies to succeed. I was not prepared because I had never had to put in much effort to understand material in my classes. Anxiety became a huge issue. Everything turned out fine but it was humbling. It did also help to further improve my social skills. Now I am preparing to apply for an MSN program as a working RN and I feel the same apprehension about the level of studying.
