Scottish independence poll: Yes: 39% No: 47% (via BMG / 28 Sep - 04 Oct)

The SNP has got the safety net of the UK with all the spending they incur.

Exactly. I would like Nicola Sturgeon to explain in plain terms how Scotland has managed to rack up a 9% deficit while investing in basically nothing except the NHS, which is still at a lower standard than England and now has a critical shortage of GPs. For reference, Greece has a ~7% deficit and a larger economy and look at the mess they're in.

Bear in mind this is with Westminster funding as well, how will they cope without that post-independence? Brussels and the EU won't want another net beneficiary parasite, especially with Albania and Montenegro on the way. Scottish fishermen mostly went Brexit because they felt their livelihoods have been destroyed by the EU; again, Sturgeon doesn't give a shit.

If trade tariffs are brought in, Scotland will have to pay handsomely to export to its biggest market - England. All the rUK perks will be gone, Scotland will get no new ones, and nobody will be picking up the tab. Sooner or later French and German taxpayers are going to get rather indignant at having to bail out yet another moribund economy in the middle of nowhere. Euro membership will be a certainty - I know people will blub forever more about only having to "make a commitment to join the Euro at some point ... Sweden still haven't etc.", but really, Scotland will have to do it near immediately because what other option will they have? Being allowed to keep the Pound is honestly less likely than Stephen Hawking reaching black belt in Karate.

Free prescriptions will have to go. Free university will be a thing of the past, even for Scottish-domiciled students. Council tax will be unfrozen, a change which will absolutely knacker household budgets all over Scotland. Taxes will rise and only normal people will suffer from that, because the super rich will either just dodge it entirely through some loophole or leave Scotland. There will have to be deep and serious public spending cuts that not even Thatcher could dream of.

Who is going to suffer from all of this? Like I said, the poor, the elderly, the vulnerable, the disabled. Sounds an awful lot like the alleged "austerity" politics in England that the SNP are so quick to condemn.

Education standards and levels of attainment are down. The police are underfunded and stretched to the point where it can take hours for officers to arrive at the scenes of violent crimes, police stations are literally falling apart with leaking roofs etc. and I have heard stories of police cadets - when they can recruit any - having to wash and shower in the dark at Tulliallan because they're trying to cut costs even further.

Remember this is with Westminster funding. What the hell will happen without it?

Perhaps it needs to happen to show people because a lot of these people are viewing this through SNP tinted glasses.

All the negative points need to be rammed home hard during any future IndyRef debate. The Scottish people aren't stupid and they will listen.
