[Serious]Ever run into a situation where you defended a complete stranger from a dangerous/bullying situation in public? How'd that go?

I was sitting in our car in the parking lot of a mall as I waited for my boyfriend who had gone into the game store 'real quick'. Thirty minutes later I was still waiting so got out of the car to have a cigarette, that's when I hears a guy yelling, and a girl crying 'just leave me alone'. I walked around to the back of the car and saw / heard this young dude yelling horrible things at a girl who was sitting on a bench outside the mall, crying with her head in her hands.

'You're such a fucking cunt!, pull that shit on me! Fuck you cunt! Got nothing to say now cunt!' He kept yelling.

The girl was bent over and crying and telling him to go away. She was using his name, so it was obvious they knew each other or were together.

At first I had that 'not my problem' thought. But he just kept going 'stupid cunt, got nothing to say now cunt!'. People were walking past, and were taking a wide berth. So I though 'fuck it' and went over.

I walked over and sat next to the girl. I didn't try and speak to the guy because I'm pretty sure he would've just called me a cunt. I tapped her shoulder and was like 'hey are you ok?' She looked up, looked at him ( he had shut up when I came over) and told me to 'fuck off'

I said 'okay, just wanted to see if you were alright', and walked back to my car. The guy called me a name as I walked off, you can probably guess what it was.

He seemed to quiet down after I had walked up. But I was still scared for the girl. I went back to my car but stayed outside and in full view and made no secret that I was watching them. The girl kept staring at me, at this point the guy decides to settle down a bit and sit down next to her. She's still looking at me, so I sparked up another cigarette, and held it out as an invitation.

She came over. I asked her where she was going, and told her we could give her a lift. She said she was only coming over because he wanted her to bring the cigarette back. I told her that wasn't going to happen, that he was an a-hole, she could come with us if she wanted to. She started crying, and apologised for yelling at me, around that point my boyfriend came back. I offered her the lift again, and she said she better not because they lived together and she couldn't leave him behind.

She told us where they lived and it was just around the corner from me, so I gave her my number, I'm not sure why, just in case.

She went back to him, and me and my boyfriend drove home.

This was 6 months ago. I still think about it.

There's so many people, especially when you live in a city, who just avoid and ignore this kind of stuff. I have to say that I've done my share of on looking and not really doing anything, expecting someone else to jump in and do something. Or take the approach of 'not my business'.
