[Serious] Redditors who were in foster care, what was it like?

I don't remember too many foster homes. I'm sure some of them were nice. There was one where we were only placed there for a week. My sister and I were shoved in the attic to sleep. When my sister was crying one night the foster parents own kids brought up a phone and basically told us to phone someone who cared. Or maybe they said to phone our mom. Once my sister stopped crying, she called China. ;D She made a few calls that night.

Another home we were placed was nasty. The guys own kids were removed by police due to abuse...yet we continued to live there. A year later one of those kids asked her social worker, "What about the little ones?"

A year later; seriously. After he lost the ability to abuse his own kids..and only had little one's in the home to abuse for that year. After he'd been to court on charges of abusing his own kids.

Viola...a social worker starts coming around to check on us little kids that were left in the home. Even then they didn't remove us right away. They would come and pick is up one at a time and just talk to us before dropping us right back off at the same home. Sometimes we took psychological tests where we drew what a family was to us...etc etc. Eventually they decided that yes; we were abused and removed us.

The social workers convinced my parents we were better off adopted by strangers. The papers they typed up claim my parents weren't abusive..they were just "Young". They were in their early 20s when they started having kids. My dad worked 5 days a week; and drank only on weekend evenings. My mom was going back to school to become a ..nurse I think?

She ended up becoming a prostitute and a drug-addict; after loosing all her kids to social services. My dad did ok; he continued to work 5 days a week until retirement. They're relationship didn't last more then a few year's.
