You go tell that to the 70 year old lady next door whose 50 year old son keeps asking people if she's sick and/or dead yet, worried he won't get his inheritance before he's dead himself.

Or tell that to all the people fighting their children in court to be able to spend their money the way they want to.

Some countries force parents to, when they die, spread the money over their kids. Only a portion is actually theirs. You might wonder "well, they're dead, who cares?" but parents rarely die at the same time. So whoever dies first leaves behind a wife or husband who can't do anything with their own money because the kids are lining up and eyeing it.

Want to sell all your stuff and travel the world? Nope, can't do that, pay out all your kids first. Worked your entire adult life 12 hours a day to feed kids and build up a retirement surplus and don't want to give to that one kid who refuses to call you his mother, never worked a day in his life and talks shit about you everywhere? Nope, you can't do anything until you're dead. Well technically you can but you need to pass by a lawyer you need to pay and prove to people you're not crazy, and if you want to sell the house they'll show up messing with who you can sell to or what you can sell it for, etc.

You think at age 18 they're out the house and no longer your problem? Think again.

You think at 70ish you can retire and do whatever you want? Nope they put you in a home and you get 5 euros allowance per months. Yes, 5, fucking, euros, per, month. Ok maybe I don't have the full context on this lady, only spoke with her for a few hours but there's no way the home is taking her entire huge pension.

Ever drive by a beautiful house that is starting to show signs of falling apart? And everyone asks to buy it but nobody ever sells? Chances are very good it's owned by a parent who doesn't want one of his or her stupid brats to inherit a huge chunk of money they never worked for and have to wait for their own kid to die first.
