Spent a good 2 days with both Vive and Rift (A friends) and decided to cancel my..

Late to this post but I got the Oculus mid last week and the Vive towards the end of last week and thought my experiences might be interesting to someone. I've spent many hours on both so far. A few hours into playing with the Vive and I already knew, that if I was forced to choose one device to keep between the two, it would be Oculus. Two days of playing later and I still feel that way.

Both are amazing, both have mind-blowing demos. However the Vive is a giant pain in the ass to use. So many more cables everywhere, the two satellites having to be mounted somewhere, not to mention they have moving parts, the need for a pretty big open space (even with all the furniture pushed out of the way in my main room it still bitched that my space wasn't big enough until I faked it by scanning the area over top of tables and couch, rendering chaperone somewhat useless). Basically all the "room scale" demos I end up just standing and turning on the spot and teleporting everywhere because it's too uncomfortable to move around a lot.

Additionally, Steam VR is just not very good. It's confusing as hell for non-gamers, and even I found myself klutzing around it sometimes, and I've been using Steam for many, many years. Trying to explain to a non gamer how to navigate it and get from one game to the next is just a pain.

However my biggest problem is the discomfort. I've had DK2 since they first shipped and Gear VR since December, and used Oculus heavily last week after receiving it, and never had any issues. No headaches, no discomfort. The Vive, after a couple hours, my neck was in a lot of pain and I had a terrible headache. I took a couple Advil and stopped for the day, then tried it again the next day, an hour or so in and I started getting a headache again, no matter how I adjusted it.

My GF had the same problem. She is fine with Oculus but ended up in so much discomfort with Vive that she had to take it off, despite REALLY wanting to keep playing.

After that, popping on the Oculus was like putting on an old pair of shoes, it just felt so good, and sitting down for a long evening of Lucky's Tale and Chronos was extremely enjoyable. Oculus Home loads up automatically, the UI is super easy to navigate, jumping in and out of games always works - Steam sometimes hangs a lot trying to get out of games.

This got long-winded... Anyway, I don't regret buying the Vive, because it delivers experiences you can't get on Oculus, but if I was forced to choose between the two... I'd have to go with the Oculus.
