Everyone knew of the man, though his face was unfamiliar to all equally. He existed somewhere just past the outskirts of daily doings, though his appearances often brought reactions beyond that of a normal encounter with a normal person.

His ability, uncanny and bordering on magical, caused many to follow him as though he were some ancient entity, commanding respect and garnering faith from those below him. By only observing any given unique moment in another's life, he would freeze that moment in time, just outside of reality, bordering on impossible, but tangible and recognizable and available at all times to the one to whom he'd gift it. His gifts would provide elation and joy to those lucky enough to receive it - and for the rest - observing from a distance with envy, a sense of witnessing something incredible their prize to take.
