I concur. The Pledge of Allegiance was quite literally made by a Baptist Christian socialist minister named Francis Bellamy in August 1892. Many people tend to argue that it was created by Bellamy in order to instill a deeply intimate sense of American nationalism in children. This argument isn't necessarily wrong since (a) it was originally marketed like that at an event made by a magazine marketer named James B. Upham on the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' landing in the Bahamas and (b) a very profoundly infamous gesture was initially used to salute the flag while children recited the pledge.
