Texas Prisons Ban 10,000 Books. No ‘Charlie Brown Christmas’ for Inmates. But 'Mein Kampf' is allowed.

First off, a lot of prisoners spend a lot of time reading and reading, like watching, can influence us even when we don’t realize it. Also, prison gangs and skinhead groups are a major issue in prison. They prey on the weak and often have them read books like mein kampf. When these prisoners get out, they bring with them the influences they gained in prison. These influences impact everyone including their kids. And yes, the kids have a lot to worry about. But to them, their dad is always going to be their dad.

And yes, we all have to deal with people who have different beliefs from our own. However, there are belief systems that are antithetical to logic and reason and prey upon the weak as well as the gullible. If kids can be spared a few years of regret and a possible crime or action they live to regret, then surrounding them with positive influences is worth it especially if they have talents and abilities that can better our lives.

And finally, state rights doesn’t excuse anything. It did not excuse slaver and it will not excuse this because this is a violation of federal law, and no state has any right to break those laws. Furthermore, it’s not a stretch to talk about our tax dollars going to fix a potential issue caused by their populists. It happened to Kansas in under a decade and that’s all it takes. Furthermore, Texas has the strongest influence on text books nationwide because the state standardizes all books across their school districts. If fascist ideas seep into that process, then we are the ones who have to deal with our children being exposed to them, often by a teacher who doesn’t really care. In regards to history, it can lead to wars being rewritten and atrocities being completely white washed. And that isn’t acceptable. And yes, their reps are their reps. However, if their reps become vile and oppressive, then they, as well as the state, need to be held accountable to their actions because this is the United States and the actions of one affect the actions of the remainder.
