Is there a more modern travel series, like Rick Steves Europe?

Same here. I generally think Ayoade is hilarious and a good guy, and I love the destinations he goes to. But I struggle with some episodes of this show for the disrespect.

It makes me cringe when they order the local foods and drinks, take one bite or sip, and then walk away with a snide comment and leave the rest. Or when they act in a way that deliberately puts the local waiter or shopkeeper to an awkward situation without knowing how to respond.

I find the show works better when the guest host doesn't try to one-up Ayoade's comments but instead contrasts him by being more open-minded, even mocking him a bit for his pickiness. Those episodes are funnier, more balanced, and feel less mean.

But when the guest host tries to copy Ayoade's ironic dry sarcastic style the show can devolve into two entitled jerks mocking a place they've made no effort to understand -- and then you truly wonder, as the show's intro always says, if they should have come.
