Thousands of people marched in São Paulo to pressure the Brazilian government to do something about the burning Amazon Rainforest

Protesting doesn't seem to be very useful either.

The article already said Bolsonaro changed his tune and said he will send the army to fight the fires and police illegal deforestation.

Whether he'll actually do anything remains to be seen, but just getting him to publicly say anything other than, "fuck the forest and the natives, let's make money" is already a big win. The big illegal deforestation increase has happened largely as a result of his rhetoric which emboldened the ranchers to believe he was on their side and need not fear consequences. Not unlike how racists have been emboldened by Trump's statements here in the US. If you believe you have one of your own in power, that's your sign to push hard whether they're actively helping you or not.
