Three Things Evangelicals Should Stop Saying In Defense of Trump

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than it is for a rich man to go to Heaven.

Matthew 17:24-27:

On their arrival in Capernaum, the collectors of the Temple tax came to Peter and asked him, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the Temple tax?” “Yes, he does,” Peter replied. Then he went into the house. But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him, “What do you think, Peter? Do kings tax their own people or the people they have conquered?” “They tax the people they have conquered,” Peter replied. “Well, then,” Jesus said, “the citizens are free! However, we don’t want to offend them, so go down to the lake and throw in a line. Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a large silver coin. Take it and pay the tax for both of us.”

Kings! The 1% are absolutely modern day American kings.... and you have been conquered.

Honestly, you caught me on margarita Thursday. And I’m gonna lay a little truth on you. I’m a trust fund guy. I make enough to live very comfortably in one of the most expensive cities in the country. I don’t even know how my money works. I just get an automatic payment in my account every month. On top of my large savings... and I’m good. I don’t even think about it. I just hang out and do whatever.

I suppose my whole point of what I’m saying is this: A large portion of my friend group are also trust funders. But they are big time. I am small potatoes. But these people are something else. Billionaire families. And I can’t even begin to convey to you. The magnitude of that sort of money. These are heirs of shipping families, energy, national chains, these people are not hurting. They’ve cornered every aspect of every market to insure they are in power. To insure that the people are conquered. I don’t even want to get fully into it. But the loopholes, perks and yearly growth of that sort of money just about cancels out any taxes for these people. If you think “stealing” tax money from Trust fund kids who are making $5million a month in order to help feed the needy, I just don’t even know what to say. You need to use your imagination and channel jesus’ message...that kindness for the needy Trumps the greed of men who continually conquer people.
