TIL that For several years, up until 2018, Sweden’s official Twitter account was given to a random citizen every week to manage.

Back when you could write on someone's wall and your homepage only showed content from your contact list. Also, I don't think "sharing" was a thing so reposts were pretty much non existent... or at least thats what chainmails and yahoo was for. You felt like you were just in a big room with everybody where you could goof off and nobody would take it seriously. It was freedom.

Some of the simplier games were pretty good with friends (shoutout hobowars) but that went downhill quickly.

It was great, I would spend 15 minutes and feel like I got caught up on everyone's lives. Now I can waste 2hrs and not see a single original post from anyone I know. Also, it's like 40% conspiracies and misinformation and another 20% outrage. After that it's basically just ads and reposts.

Social media is the opposite of what it used to be. Now it feels loke everyone is in the same room but inside their own bubble where they are shouting at the top of their lungs to get everyone else's attention. Sure there are way more cooler things on there now than ever before but it's just tiring and now when I use it, I don't feel closer to anyone anymore.... just more aware of the distance between us.

I rather enjoy my time by myself than log on to he constantly reminded that I'm alone.
