Toil, ballpoint on paper, 30x40"

Hello. I am 38 years old. I used to be good at art at an early age but it was more like copying than inventing. For instance i drew a shoe with shading and as much detail as i could.

So now i sketch daily for about a few years but more freely, like lately i have been trying to get human body in different shapes. Recently i started breaking ut into triangles and blocks, and i think i am making progress in understanding the body but comes the problem of never having a finished scene or picture.

So i figure there's an innate ability which i lack.

As some more background i started with face and can now sketch realistic expressions but cannot dictate what the expression will be. I can only go with my accidentally marked pieces.

So it looks like i am slow. So i sometimes think "what if it's not innate skill, what if it's just some book someones read and from it they learned it." And then you know, i think "well why not ask one of those people that can do what you can't."

But, just as an example, along with any art advice you have, what kind of payment would you take for a commisioned series of pictures for a novel? Not that there is one.
