When I was in high school this ‘jokingly asking out the weirdo’ thing happened to me as well. Because I was bookish, shy and geeky and would get embarrassed.

Years later I ran into one of the guys and he told me that he had actually had a massive crush on me and suspected the other guys had too but because I was unpopular and asking me out would’ve been social suicide the ‘jokingly’ doing it was his way round it. It didn’t make me respect him very much as I found it super spineless. From how absolutely stunning you look, I imagine it’s something similar with you! They’re probably afraid you’ll reject them or that they won’t seem ‘cool’ to their friends.
