Top scientists warn of 'ghastly future of mass extinction' and climate disruption

As someone under 30 who has spent my whole life hearing this message and doing their best within reason to live sustainably, it's hard to not just feel defeated. I know this, my friends know this, but I know that that doesn't matter because I'm stuck on this Earth with a bunch of wealthy sociopaths (and, frankly, science-denying morons) who will die soon enough that they don't care about my hopes and dreams of a future worth living. I always see these posts, upvote them for visibility, then hide them and try to go about my day without succumbing to anxiety and dread. I truly wonder what the breaking point will be for people before we outright start forcing change on this issue, but my fear is that, by the time we're really seeing the effects of climate change, we'll be way too late to make meaningful changes. I work in mental health and I can already see how young people feel utterly defeated as they watch the potential end of their species happen for such a trivial reason as indulging the excessively, absurdly wealthy as they throw us all under the bus for their bottom lines. I consider myself an overall optimistic, happy person, but the weight of climate change is so existentially crushing that I sometimes think that's the exact reason so many people just turn to denial instead of considering what changes need to be made.
