Trump supporter attacks BBC cameraman at El Paso rally

Stop acting like there isn’t completely legitimate reason for the people, regardless of their politics, to dislike the press.

Whenever you grew up, I’m sure the Internet hadn’t completely changed the game of journalism. Much of journalism is a race to the bottom. Sell the most as revenue and get the most clicks.

Trump’s anger against the press is legitimate. The anger of the people against the press is legitimate.

The only thing illegitimate is that Trump adeptly and selectively points the vitriol ONLY at the media outlets that have been critical of him. But that’s also not to say that those outlets aren’t pushing their own agendas or are these unimpeachable virgin journalists who are “simply interested in truth.” They’re not.

The only thing wrong with Trump’s vilification of the press is that it’s selective outrage, which is still quite objectionable.

But we can’t be so myopic as to think that the press isn’t part of our problem here and that if we merely had a different President, this problem wouldn’t exist. It exists. And will likely continue to exist. Trump can do this because the press’ credibility has been in the shitter for years, and they brought it upon themselves. Trump exploited that lack of credibility.

Think what you will about the President and his administration, but let’s not act as though the press isn’t feeding into this. And let’s not act like they were unimpeachable and are merely being bullied by the President.

It’s two assholes pissing on each other’s legs.
