I certainly think that the US should learn a huge amount of humility in terms of it's involvement in foreign issues. But complete isolationism isn't necessarily the best answer either. Of course, first do no harm may be a good rule to follow. Also the US has a lot of domestic issues it really needs to sort out before it tries to teach others lessons about freedom or democracy or whatever.

But invading Iraq or Afghanistan without support from the population or a good understanding of or respect for the cultures and societies involved is very different from providing support to a population under attack that wants the support to defend themselves.
