The University of British Columbia Destroys an Indigenous Professor’s Reports of White Supremacy among Teacher Candidates

Sure, but UBC also has a history with this professor so it could also be the slightest excuse to terminate that professor's contract. I'm generally undecided, there isn't enough evidence to support either argument, and I can attest that this professor in general has had some complaints lobbed at her; student feedback is one of the biggest deciders in whether adjunct professors are kept on.

Anecdotally, a number of teacher candidates are notorious for getting upset whenever legitimate criticism is thrown their way from a professor. I have personally seen/heard TCs absolutely destroy adjunct professors on end-of-year assessments because they received a less-than-desirable mark, which in turn affects whether or not that particular professor will be rehired in the coming academic year. In more instances than not, the negative feedback provided was the result of a personal vendetta over marks that were deemed "unfair." So, if TCs are failing to engage in an Indigenous education course where the mandate is to prepare teachers to draw upon Indigenous epistemology, then there is no reason why they can't be considered for a failing grade if TCs are rejecting those theories in the first place. That being said, no one except for the elementary TCs know what happened, so until an investigation is launched we won't know whether or not the professor was abusing her power, which could be possible.

Also, just as an aside, the program is practically a 100% pass rate when it comes to coursework outside of practicum. Professors usually give you makeup assignments, extensions, and so on to ensure that EVERY student passes. There is rarely ever a threat of failing. So either the professor is a fickle marker, or these students held some fairly-egregious views.
