Ditto to u/CruiseMiso, gap years aren't worth it unless you have resources lined up for you/ an easy way into doing something productive. Some take a year off to travel, but that requires money. Others work, but that requires no pandemic. Can't speak for UBC, but I know some Uni's in the UK can get a bit funky with people taking gap years and doing nothing during that time but sitting around. Friend took a gap year and did nothing, Uni asked what he did during his gap year, he was stumped, didn't get an offer. Might just be one horror story, and may not even apply to Canadian Uni's, but if I were you, I'd enrolle this year.

tl;dr: A gap year really is not worth your time and may disadvantage you next year if you are asked what you did during this time and did nothing. Better to just go ahead and enroll in Uni this year and start doing something productive.
