If you would go to the archive of r/india when they were having their big outbreak (was it April-May?), there were many, many posts on the topic of people selling/promoting various alternative medicines/treatments, some based on Hindu religious practices. One of the most notable was this politician claiming that drinking cow piss prevented COVID, which led to a wave of other people drinking cow piss and posting it on social media. I guess a main difference would be that the vaccine was not widely available in India at that point, so they weren't being anti-vaxx, but it does fall in line with the pattern of "the approved medical treatment is all lies and does nothing, this magic cure will save us".
