I'm one of the cofounders of Epic Scale.

The claims of silent install are very concerning to us. We want users who want to be a part of our network and definitely would never promote or agree to a silent install of our software.

Over the last 48 hours we have tried reproducing this issue many times. We have tried updating from different versions to the most recent one and also tried fresh installs. We have tried using computers from various countries and configurations (OS version, additional software installed such as unchecky, etc.) We have reached out to affected users and paid them to give us technical details of their system and details on their install process.

uTorrent has tried to reproduce the issue during this time as well - both of us have been unsuccessful in doing so. Still, we are looking into what could have gone wrong and manually helping users uninstall the software if they wish. Of course, we are still are seeking reproducible build instructions.

We have also been reading all the feedback from the community regarding Epic Scale to learn how we can improve. Going forward, we are going to make our offer much more clear, similar to Skype's offer. We hope that this will help make what Epic Scale is more evident to the user. It was never our intention to trick users into an install. We have also made the uninstall more reliable and developed an uninstallation tool for users who are having issues - now listed on our website. We are prioritizing building research relations so more of the network can be spent on research instead of cryptocurrency mining (which is what we do when there is not work available - not all we do). Finally, we are working to be clear and transparent about how money goes to charities and how much (100% of profits since our inception, long term we aim for 75% for sustainability but hope to improve from there.)

We dream of a future where the work of your computer, not the sale your private information or the degradation of your experience (via ads) can be the primary funding source for free software, all while forwarding research and providing a massive funding source for charities. This is our goal at Epic Scale.
