Oh thank god for this thread, I just finished an argument with my Mom, and felt like letting it out.

To preface this, I'm in a speech and debate team at my university, and we have 2 gay members, a bisexual member, and the professor in charge is also gay.

So on the way to university (she has to drive me due to the fact that I'm under 16 and can't get a license), we started talking about the speech and debate team I'm in, with whom we just spent 4 days out of town for a competition. When we were almost there, my Mom said that she wanted to discuss some about them, and that I may think that she's being an idiot or uneducated. She then goes on to say that she has nothing against the gay community (she even has two gay siblings), but that she wants me to be aware that there's a chance of them hitting on me, even though I'm straight. Now, had she left it at that, there would have been no problem. However, she goes on to say "it's a well known fact within the gay community that a way to help them thrive is to turn over heterosexuals to homosexuality. I don't have anything against this, but I want you to keep that in mind."

I was absolutely dumbfounded at this, and then asked her for how she could back this up, and she kept on citing one example of what happened between her sister and her former partner, in spite of the fact that her former partner mentioned that she was gay all along. Then when I tried backing my opinion (that you're born with your sexuality, you don't just change it for no reason) up with studies, she went on to say that there's a good chance that the scientists were biased, which of course, was possible, but I proceeded to say that if there's a general consensus, then there's a good chance that it's correct. However, then she said that I hadn't lived enough to change her opinion (she says that she won't try to force her own on me, but to just respect others), and that I was basing all of my opinion off of data rather than experience, so she wouldn't listen to it. Overall, I'm extremely pissed off by the rotten cunt.
