A week after paying off my car.

This is why I hate when I see people saying that insurance is there to "make you whole." If that were the case, then I could get a comparable car with the money that is paid out. This is never the case, the money paid out will never get you a car as nice as the one that was totaled. So now I either have to downgrade my vehicle, take out another loan that I didn't have before, or drop a ton of my own cash to get a comparable car. That's not "making you whole," that's putting you in a hole. I get that those people are saying that insurance isn't there to put you ahead of where you were, but it's just a total lie to imply that they put you back where you were.
