Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what do you think of it?

It's not being elitist, but I would say NRS games feel pretty bad in general, I'm pretty sure you've already seen the video talking about the animations so I won't link it, but yeah, animations are a very big deal in fighting games and NRS just doesn't seem to get it so a lot of impact is missing in their games but that isn't enough, a lot of their balance and game flow is way too different to what feels good in fighting games, I just can't imagine any competent fighting game thinking this is a good way to implement zoning or that this is remotely acceptable

What's worse is that I believe NRS realizes they just can't compete against other fighting games, which is why they focus a lot on presentation, like, insane amount of presentation to try to hide their flaws: 20+ different lines for each possible match up, interactables, X-Ray moves, clashes, the way they implement super moves, they all seem there to distract from the core gameplay not being as good as basically every other fighting game, KoF XIV looks like shit and worse than MvCI or most games from last gen and lacks a lot for a single player but it feels a billion times better to play than Injustice 2, it's also why I don't try to be very harsh on MvCI, because despite it looking bland from a presentation perspective, the core gameplay seems to be good and even the most critical players that played both demos (Story Demo and E3 demo) say that the E3 is significantly better from a core gameplay perspective, which is what I like about fighting games the most, even if I'm stuck at mediocre levels
