It might be comforting to them because then they know that what you and I do as people will not have an effect on the place we call the universe. In other words it could be that it gives them the sense that they have free range to do what they please without having to think of how it will affect generations in the future. Although there are regulations within governments that prevent one from doing certain things, knowing that you ultimately mean nothing in the grand scheme of things could make someone feel unique because they can be who they want to be without the pressure of others. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense I was trying to come up with my interpretation of what they think.
