What is all this fuss about a Tumblr blackout?

Wow, there's just so much wrong with, just... everything you just said.

1) I don't believe I said anything to the sort. In fact, it looks to me like quite the opposite. I made the clear distinction that not being "with" is an automatic qualifier for "against" and that being "against" is a stance that has to be actively taken by the individual.

What? How is that in any way opposing my claim that you're using 'with-or-against' mentality?

2) It's just a bunch of black people getting together to make a movement where they simply post selfies on one website for a day or so. What about that is so racist? Please explain. What is the other viewpoint here? I'm dying to know. Not even being sarcastic.

The 'other viewpoint' is that focusing on one race to the exclusion of others is racist. If you replaced this with white people posting selfies, people would be up in arms. Oh, wait, they were.

3) I genuinely want to know how white people not being able to use a single tag which was made with the express intent to be used by black people is racist. How is this one thing being about not-white people racist?

The false assumption being made here is that this is about white people. It isn't. I don't give a shit if there's a #Whiteout. I take issue with the fact that Tumblr is acting like trying to focus on a single race and excluding other races from posting something isn't racist.

4)Does this also mean the BET channel, or movies made to cater to black audiences are racist, because they are also "for" black people at the exclusion of other people? Are afro picks racist because white people don't have afros or dark-skin-colored makeup and underwear racist because they're made for black people? Does this mean that the Civil Rights movement of the 60s, which was largely about African Americans and other non-white minority races getting the right to vote racist because it wasn't about white people too? How far does this line of logic go?

BET and Madea might be 'made' for a black audience, but they don't have rules on the poster saying 'non-blacks not allowed to view'. #Blackout does. Go read the original post.

The point of all of this is that #Blackout exists to exclude people based on skin color while getting mad at white people for excluding people based on skin color. How do you not understand the hypocrisy?
