What Americans totally misunderstand about immigration, in one chart

Yep, unfortunately they do. I am half black, half white and look “latino”. Half of my family (my AA side) has been here since the 1600s, and the other half since the 1800s.

I have gotten asked ever since I was a child, “What country are you from?” Or “Do you speak English?” “Are you hispanic?” Etc. Even recently last summer when I was at the hospital, the nurse asked me what country I was from. I told her I have never been out of this country (which is true, I have yet to venture abroad).

I just don’t know why people feel like they should randomly ask where I’m from. My valley girl accent clearly is indicative of being American.
