What is the best way out of the food service industry?

I’ve done it! A few years ago i managed to bail out of the food industry.
A bit of background.
I’ve started as a weekend barista at the tender age of 14, it was legal back then and literally filled my pocket with cash. It was good, so good and I felt rich compared to my mates. Shortly, I managed to buy a motorbike, a car a bit later on. Yes, I was lured.
Time passed, high school finished and instead of going to uni I decided to carry on bartending, waiting, sommelier etc etc and in a few years finally became restaurant manager. Money was good but always felt an outcast to my friends with my upside down shifts. Always at work when people are free and viceversa.
Finally, the last drop was my failed marriage, me and my then wife ended up hardly seeing each other thanks to my job.

I had enough of restaurant, bars and the lot alienating me from a “happy life”.

I was by alone in my crappy studio, already lived a couple of years by myself, harldy and money and even less people I wanted to spend time with who weren’t collegues. And that one single night I was high AF, I needed to find something I’m good at to change my day (night rather) job.
Lightbulb! I can make one of my hobbies (motorbikes) into a job. Went to college at 35yo and managed a years training as a mechanic while working nights and early (Early!!) mornings making sandwiches. It was hard, so hard. I finished college, got my paper but had to work some seven or eight months still into catering until finding a position in a bike shop.
Five years on, I’m still happy with my choice.
Sorry if this isn’t specific financial advice, i just wanted to say sometimes what you actually like doing can be made into a job.
Cheerio!
