What is college REALLY like?

College life is freedom - That's what makes it so great, you can do what you want. Whether you're looking forward to the party side or the academics and career opportunities, the world is yours during this time of your life. Just don't screw it up.

I was pretty scared moving into my dorms for the first time, but everyone else was too. Eventually you just relax and have that free feeling swoop over you. I never saw my roommates unless we were watching TV or making dinner, as we were usually all out doing different things. The parties were pretty insane, but since I was more of an outdoors person I set up a hiking club and met a lot of awesome people through that. That was the great thing, people are here from all over the place, so you'll always find people who like the stuff you like.

The classes were what you'd expect, but the real shift from high school is that it's not the professor's fault if you fail. You're paying to be there so make sure you show up, to every lecture. No more of the "parent teacher meetings" - So keep track of your shit and always be on top of it. It's almost mind boggling how responsible you'll be treated there. I set a rule for myself for a minimum of 3.5 GPA - I'd recommend doing something like this.

There's shit going on constantly whether it's a play, a club gathering, a party, you name it. There's usually fliers all over campus for stuff you can take part in, and is a great way to meet people.

All in all, it's a never ending train from the first moment you set your bags down there. The biggest thing to always make time to study and never fall behind. Falling behind in college was the worst thing I did, as my professor was not very lenient. In order to make up what I had missed, it was tantamount to holding an open firehoze to my mouth and trying to drink from it. So much info is covered over lectures, never get behind man.

I went to Washington State University and later transferred to University of Washington, where I did a year abroad at University of Bristol. College life is the shit, embrace it.
