What is this dark shadow on the edge of my monitor?

So there's this somewhat strange thing that I recently noticed on my 27" 1080p IPS BenQ BL2780T. What the heck kind of defect is that grayish patch on the top edge near the left corner on a white background (or any bright color background, for that matter)? My display has extremely good black uniformity and nonexistent blacklight bleed on an all dark test image. But on bright test images, UI applications, and backgrounds, there's this odd and increasingly more annoying gray patch on the edge. It doesn't seem to correspond to traditional IPS LCD display problems, I can't find much about it anywhere. Is it some kind of clouding? That doesn't make much sense, though, because it's only right on the edge. Is the backlight itself not uniform there? I would appreciate some advice here, I've never seen this before and it troubles me :(
