Okay so here's my theory...

like 3-4 years ago subs like /r/wtf would be looooaded with gore but people started getting bored of gore. Gore is just gore, also there's a sub specifically for it.

Not to mention that sites like Rotten have been around since forever so people have seen gore and there's only so much gore you can see before you're completely desensitized and just like pissed everything is gore.

So what do you want to see instead? Docks so deep that bowhead whales emerging from the creepy depths of the ocean that you thought was the shoreline, or tornadoes decimating a gym on camera... the kind of things that really you just can't be desensitized too because of their variance. The kinds of things that catch you by surprise. Gore is just gore. After a while it loses it's shock value and you actually either don't care at all or get this horrible feeling deep inside you.

So gore isn't really a thing unless you go looking for it because people have moved on, the internet has grown.
