What innocent question has someone asked you that secretly crushed you a little inside?

What’s wrong with your son?

I get asked this at every mom group I go to because he is a big kid it seems like he is developmentally delayed. He is as tall as most three year olds and only 16 months. He also meets his milestones late, but mainly because he had two surgeries that required anesthesia before one. It also sends crushing sensations through my chest when other mothers who don’t know us immediately assume something is “wrong” with him.

For a while because of the constant nagging from people I barely knew I had convinced myself there was something “wrong.” Dyspraxia, ASD, language delay, “clumsy child disorder” (didn’t know half of these were even a thing!)

I don’t go to mom meet up groups anymore and am more happy for it. He’s developing normally for his age and if anything happens to come up that isn’t 100% normal we will deal with it as a family. He will always be the the same sweet hearted boy no matter what happens.
