Do you know about the Christian sect- the Shakers? I believe they got their name from shaking when the spirit was in their body, but anyway, they started in England, and at one point there were 18 villages in the US. But sex was forbidden amongst the Shakers, and men slept in large barrack type house, separated from the women. And not a lot of young people wanted to join a religion where sex was forbidden, so the Shaker movement pretty much ended itself. They made some really nice simple wooden furniture, which you can find in New England. At this point, there is just one remaining Shaker village- in Maine, somewhere. And it will be interesting to see when that closes.
