I've always wanted to answer this.

Baseball, Tennis, and Golf would all be much more exciting for broadcasting AND it we can justify the ridiculous salaries of the athletes if we just made one small change:

Once each season, in each of those sports, one single ball would be replaced with an extremely high explosive charge.

WAIT, HEAR ME OUT. I get that it's barbaric, I get that it's not related to the sport, but consider the ratings! Consider how absurd the pay rates are for these athletes (well except maybe tennis), and consider the near-death levels of boredom experienced by spouses and friends of fans of these sports each year.

This small change would dramatically improve the entertainment quality of these sports, and provide some type of real-world occupational risk for profession ball smackers.
