What is the most pitiful act you've witnessed someone in a pending divorce do?

I bring up this question because my boyfriend's parents are in the middle of a pendinf divorce and I get to witness all of the drama seeing as we all live under the same roof.

My boyfriend's father is the one I've seen exhibit the most bizzarre behavior yet. He's losing his head.

Ever since his wife kicked him out of their room he's been sleeping on the couch in the loft. He came home just last week and had rearranged all of the furniture in the loft to make room for a tent he had bought that day, set it up, and called it his new room. The next day he bought an even bigger tent and tried to fit the couch he'd been sleeping on inside of it. (Probably hated sleeping on blankets over the floor.)

Now he's back to just putting up with the couch.

Earlier in April he came on frantically with bags full of party items and rounded up my boyfriend and his younger siblings to help him set up a belated birthday party for their mother.

Seeing as I had just woken up I figured it was just an April Fools prank. It wasn't. He was completely serious about the birthday party. Bought her a gift and everything. Her birthday was in September, and they had apparently never celebrated it.

He does odd, random things like that in an effort to win her over. It's really sad.

Their whole relationship is just super unstable right now. One day they won't been seen at all because they're both hanging out in the bedroom (they most likey have sex on those days and are okay with each other for a little while) and then another day you'll see them whispering on the couch in the loft (apparently cannot talk in the privacy in their bedroom), and then the next night he's out on the sofa again plotting some grand gesture to win her over again. Rinse, repeat.
